There was a street party / political meeting outside my flat this week. The event was organised by the Turkish Communist Party. There was a mixture or music, performances and political speeches.
The music was great and the girls dressed in Turkish costumes did a great job with a set of songs and dances. There were also some singers and a nice folk band.
I looked up the Turkish Communist Party. They have no representatives in the national assembly, but they do have a sprinkling of seats at local government level.
I couldn’t understand the speeches at all, since I don’t speak Turkish, but I heard a few words I could recognize; America, NATO, benzin (petrol) and electricity. This is at a time when world prices of energy and food are rising due to thee US/Israel attack on Iran.
Anyway, it was a really nice festival. The performances and music were all to a high standard, and it was nice to see the local community being so involved.
